Isle of Man Foodbank is a locally ran charity that provides crisis support in the form of food parcels to families and individuals in need. They provide a support and action plan to help get beyond the crisis, a plan for a return to independence alongside simple advice on cooking with minimal facilities.
In November 2021 Tevir Group worked with Hansard International to organise a collection at 55 Athol Street for all tenants to make donations to the Foodbank which proved to be very successful and all contributions made were greatly appreciated. The Foodbank does much more than just providing individuals with meals, such as providing electric fleeces to help individuals keep warm in circumstances where heating can't be afforded as well as providing families with enough fuel to be able to heat one room in their house and enabling the children to have a warm bath. They also provide basic cooking lessons and advice to help aid individuals live independently and with minimal cooking facilities.
Tevir were delighted to be invited down to the Isle of Man Foodbank based at Ballafletcher House, where Jess Edmonds and Charlotte Sexton met with Director Neal Mellon who kindly explained about all the above roles of the Foodbank as well as giving an in depth tour of their headquarters, including the main collection point, storage areas and preparation facilities. Tevir made a generous donation which will go towards the Foodbank's continuous support for the Island's community as well as some of the local schools where they provide a breakfast club for the children less fortunate. In addition to the focus work that the charity carries out, it is fantastic to see that the Foodbank's workforce is made up solely of volunteers, all from a variety of backgrounds, offering different skillsets, but all with the same ethic of wanting to help others in the community.
We hope that our donation to Isle of Man Foodbank will have a positive impact and would encourage anyone wishing to make a donation or offer their own volunteer services, please visit their website here for more information.
