The work of Victim Support Isle of Man includes providing emotional support for victims of various offences including domestic and sexual abuse, physical or sexual assaults, thefts, burglaries, and criminal damage. They also support the families of people involved in fatal road collisions, as well as supporting witnesses through the court process.
The Foundation has provided funding for a two-year period to support the development of a volunteer training programme and a corporate awareness program to help raise an understanding in the island community of the impact of domestic abuse and how organisations best support employees who may be impacted by this issue.
Lorna Trevethan, CEO of Victim Support Isle of Man, says ‘We are so grateful to the Keith Jones Foundation for their support for the next two years. This support will enable us to develop a robust training programme for our volunteers, who are much needed as we continue to see an increase in referrals year on year. Having more volunteers who are trained with the appropriate skills will enable us to support more people. As well as training the volunteers, increasing awareness about domestic abuse and its impact on those who may be or have lived in an abusive relationship, will enable the wider community to better understand how best to support their employees and how to identify those who may be suffering in silence. We are so excited to be able to develop these much-needed programmes.’
Ciaran Doherty, MD at Tevir Group says “We are delighted to provide the donation to Victim Support Isle of Man. We know that the funds contributed are going towards a very worthwhile cause, raising awareness, and helping support those who need the charity.”
On Friday 9th February 2024, Victim Support organised a ‘Wear Yellow Day’ raising awareness and money for the charity. Staff at Tevir Group supported the cause together with many other businesses on the island.
